Throughout humankind, we have protected and clothed our bodies, against the weather and for modesty, and added value to our external appearances. Kathrine Kirk, MA graduate of the Royal Danish Academy, explores clothing as a form of packaging, drawing parallels between the ways we protect, present, and add value to objects and bodies. Her collection PLEASE HANDLE WITH CARE, takes the material qualities of packaging, including shipping labels, cheap cardboard packaging boxes and tape, and turns them into high-quality garments. Through innovative and experimental techniques, including vacuuming, bonding, draping and working with shapable metal, stiff box-shapes are transferred into a collection that spans black, geometric shapes, wrinkly textures and bulging surfaces.
