Karelian Sportlore combines Karelian craft and folk dresses with contemporary technical sportswear. Inheriting his grandmother’s Antrean national costume led Lauri Greis, a BA-graduate of Aalto, to explore the history of Finnish national dress and folk dresses, and then pairing the inspiration with what Finns wear the most: tracksuits. A tassel skirt, petticoats, pleating, embroidered veils and Sykerö headdress are married with sporty stripes, water repellent anoraks and puffer jackets. Greis’ collection merges the past with the present and explores the idea of a Finnish fashion identity as an anti-fashion statement that transcends seasons, location and gender.
