‘Aporia’

“The collection revolves around being young and finding one’s way through the challenges such as mental illness, loneliness and anxiety. The ancient Greek word ‘Aporia’ means impasse or something between two things. Mental illness has never been more widespread amongst young people, and at the same time we have never been this ambitious and serious about our lives. All that matters seems to be progress and the final result. We don’t understand compromise. I have created four themes in terms of shape, colour and mood from: ‘DUI - The car crash’; ‘Forced Drape’; ‘Bi-polar Fabrics’, ‘Moment Shape’. 80% of the materials for this collection are deadstock textiles from factories in Beirut or left-over scraps from other projects. I used this sourcing method to challenge my creativity by the restriction of materials.”
