Sculpted Space bridges fashion and art, presenting wearable knitted sculptures that push the boundaries of traditional garment design. By approaching design spatially, initially without the human body as a reference, Yeruul Ariunsansar, a BA-graduate of the Swedish School of Textiles, has sculpted knitted forms inside of scaffoldings. Upon merging and manipulating several knitting techniques, metal boning is incorporated into the knitwear. These sculpted forms are draped onto undergarments, adapting the shapes to the human body while preserving their sculptural essence to make it wearable. To improve the stability and expression of the shapes, layers of latex coating are applied. A collaboration with graffiti artist Adam Algottson adds vibrant colour and texture through spray painting. The work highlights the organic quality of the sculptures that can be worn on the body to convey a lifelike movement and form.
